Take control of your life with one simple habit

In this podcast (episode #567) and blog, I talk to bestselling author and top podcast host Mel Robbins about her book The High 5 Habit, the brain-mind-body connection, building self-confidence, and so much more!

The High 5 Habit is a simple yet profound tool that can change your attitude, your mindset, and behavior. It can help you dig yourself out of a mental hole when you are feeling down or depressed. All you have to do, when standing in front of a mirror in the morning, is give your reflection a high 5, no matter how you feel in the moment. Instead of berating your reflection, or turning away from it, this little action helps shift your mind in a different direction. It helps break apart decades of subconscious programming and helps your brain create new programming that changes how you see yourself and what you are capable of.

Essentially, when you do this, you are taking the positive association of high-fiving someone and aiming that back at yourself and your self-image. It changes the way you see yourself, treat yourself and your mood. It shifts your thinking from focusing on everything that is wrong with you, which reinforces a habit of self-rejection, to focusing on everything you think of when you think of high-fiving someone: “You got this”, “Yes!”, “Well done”, and so on.

It may feel weird at first as you build the habit, but over time your brain and body will start responding. Remember, you are learning something new, so it may feel odd or different at first, and you may laugh or cry at yourself as you give yourself permission to release all those pent-up emotions you have and the longing you have had for connecting with yourself. It is a powerful spiritual experience, because you are connecting with your true nature!

This small, daily habit is so powerful because we only give high fives in moments of joy, congratulations, happiness, encouragement or hope. When we start giving ourselves high fives in the mirror each morning, we transfer these positive associations over to how we see ourselves, helping transform our self-image and confidence at times when we feel low. This, in turn, encourages us to keep on keeping on—to not give up on ourselves. It is like an instant hit to our brain chemistry! Our nervous system recognizes this gesture as energizing in a positive way, boosting us when we need it most.

Indeed, small, everyday habits like this help us when we need to clean up our mental mess. They help us at times when we feel stuck, overwhelmed and hopeless, and encourage us to keep going, even when we are feeling on top of the world.

Qualia Senolytic. If you have listened to my podcast for a while now, you know how interconnected the mind, brain and body are. This is why I strive to do my best for my health, mentally and physically, and one of the ways I like to do that is by taking senolytics as part of my daily mind management and health routine. It’s a class of ingredients discovered less than 10 years ago, and they’re being called the biggest discovery of our time for promoting healthy aging and enhancing your physical prime. As we age, everyone accumulates “Senescent” cells in their body. Senescent cells cause symptoms of aging: such as aches and pains, slow workout recoveries, sluggish mental and physical energy associated with that “middle age” feeling. Also known as “Zombie Cells”, they are old and worn out and not serving a useful function for our health anymore but they are taking up space and nutrients from our healthy cells.  Much like pruning the yellowing and dead leaves off a plant, senolytics can help remove those worn out senescent cells to allow for the rest of them to thrive in the body. This why I use Qualia Senolytic. I take it just 2 days a month, and feel so much more energized and ready to take on the day when I wake up! I also love that the formula is non-GMO, vegan, gluten-free, and the ingredients are meant to complement one another, factoring in the combined effect of all ingredients together. if also comes with a 100 Day money back guarantee! Resist aging at the cellular level, try Qualia Senolytic. Oneskin. Did you know it’s important to shift your skin care routine with the seasons? Things like dry, flaky skin…redness…even fine lines and wrinkles are a reflection of what’s happening at the cellular level. So, give your skin the TLC it needs to stay healthy, smooth, and hydrated as we move into warmer weather. OneSkin’s products are powered by their scientifically-proven peptide called OS-1. This peptide reduces the accumulation of damaged, aging cells — the cells that make your skin less resilient and more prone to lines and wrinkles. Instead of masking these issues, OneSkin addresses them at the cellular level, boosting your skin’s natural barrier to lock in moisture and help protect against the elements. They have a full line of face and body products, including OS-01 SHIELD, an SPF that prevents UV-induced aging and repairs cellular aging all at once. I love OneSkin’s topical FACE, EYE, BODY, & SHIELD, which I use with my other products and easily fits into my daily skin care routine. It has significantly reduced my redness and the dry skin I get from traveling for work and has made a big difference not just to my appearance but also my skin comfort! No matter the season, you can keep your skin looking and feeling healthy with OneSkin. They are truly the world's first skin longevity company. By focusing on the cellular aspects of aging, OneSkin keeps your skin looking and acting younger for longer. Get started today with 15% off using code DRLEAF at oneskin.co.
